Focus and Scope

ANAPHORA is an open-access, peer-reviewed, and biannual academic journal dedicated to the publicationsof research in the areas of language, literary, and culture studies.Language studies may include issues in applied linguistics such as sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, critical discourse analysis, pragmatics, stylistics, corpus linguistics, meta-language and so forth. Literary studies covers English classics, modern and contemporary literature in the forms of printed, screened, aired or performed texts, comparative literature, children literature, sociology of literature, structuralism, psychoanalysis and so forth. Cultural studies covers cultural texts and practices, especially those associated with issues about language and literature, such as gender criticism, media studies, popular culture and so forth. Its primary objective is to provide a forum for scholars and practitioners in the areas to address such issues. To be selected for publication, the manuscript should present new ideas in the disciplines, originated from empirical, theoretical, and methodological research within both a single discipline and those that sub- or multi-disciplines. This journal encourages a high standard of scholarship, written in clear and straightforward organization without requiring that authors alter their analytical style and writing voice.

Peer Review Process

ANAPHORA: A Journal of Language, Literary, and Cultural Studies is published by the English department, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 (UNTAG) Surabaya. The manuscript submitted to this journal will be double blind peer-reviewed (both the reviewer and the author will be kept anonymous) and will take a couple of weeks for the manuscript to get back to the author. The authors will be notified of the status of their manuscripts (accepted without revisions/accepted pending changes/to be revised and resubmitted/rejected) after the completion of the internal and/or external review process. The accepted research articles will be made available online following the journal peer-reviewing process.

To check Plagiarism, Anaphora Editor will screen the manuscript and will make use of text maching software or plagiarism checker to check abstract and the body text of the manuscript. If it is found a plagiarism indication, editorial board will reject manuscript immediately.

More specifically, our editorial process is as follows:

  1. Initial screening. All submissions are initially screened by the Editor-in-Chief for their conformity to Anaphora's scope and basic submission requirements, and checked for plagiarism. Manuscripts that fail to abide by our ethical standards are immediately rejected, as are manuscripts that do not fit within the journal's scope.
  2. Reviewer assignment. Manuscripts that pass initial screening are then handed over to a section editor, who will select at least two relevant reviewers and initiate the peer review process.
  3. Peer review. During this stage, a reviewer will asess the content of the manuscript and provide their recommendation to the Editor-in-Chief.
  4. First decision. Once both (or more) reviewers have submitted their recommendations, the manuscript is either rejected, asked for revisions (minor or major), or accepted as is. If it is accepted, the manuscript is returned to the submitting author for proofreading. The final decision to accept the manuscript is made by the Editor-in-Chief based on the recommendation of the section editor and following approval by the editorial board.
  5. Revision. A manuscript that requires revisions is returned to the submitting author, who will have up to four weeks to revise the manuscript. Once the revision is submitted, it is once again assessed by the section editor to determine whether the changes are adequate and appropriate, as well as whether the author(s) sufficiently responded to the reviewers' comments and suggestions. If the revisions are deemed to be inadequate, this step is repeated (the manuscript is returned to the submitting author once more for further revision).
  6. Final decision. Finally, the revised manuscript is either accepted or rejected, depending on whether the section editor has found the manuscript to have been improved to a level worthy of publication. If the author(s) are unable to make the required changes or have done so to a degree below Anaphora's standards, the manuscript is rejected.
  7. Language editing. Once the manuscript is accepted, it is returned to the submitting author for final editing of its language and content; these are changes that improve the readability of the article without changing the substance of the content. Anaphora requires authors to return the manuscript with proof that changes have been made, which the editorial board will review before ultimately greenlighting the manuscript for publication.
  8. Typesetting.Once greenlit, the manuscript is handed over to the journal's typesetter. The final version of the article, as it will appear in Anaphora, is returned to the submitting author for proofreading and final approval.
  9. Publication. Congratulations! The published article will appear in the latest issue of Anaphora.

 

Publication Frequency

Anaphora: Journal of Language, Literary and Cultural Studies published by English Department in Faculty of Cultural Science  at the Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya, are scheduled for publication two times a year, that are in June and December

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

 

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

 

Publication Ethics

In line with the mission of the University of 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya which seeks to advance and disseminate knowledge and understanding through scientific publications and knowledge books. As part of the Ethics of this publication the University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya adopted a neutral position on the issues managed in the publication. We offer a free and open type of access to our journal articles.

University 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya is committed to upholding standards of ethical behavior at all stages of the publication process and we recommend the Committee on Best Practices Publication Ethics Guidelines (COPE).

Publication Ethics for Journal Editors

Editors should be accountable for everything published in their journal: this includes having measures in place to assess the quality of the material they accept for the journal and a willingness to publish corrections and clarifications when required.
Editors should act in a fair and balanced way when carrying out their duties, without discrimination on grounds of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religious or political beliefs.

Editors should provide guidance to authors and reviewers on everything that is expected of them.

Peer Review

Editors should make decisions on which articles to publish based on quality and suitability for the journal and without interference from the journal owner/publisher.

A description of peer review processes should be published, and editors should be ready to justify any important deviation from the described processes.

Editors should handle submissions in a fair, unbiased and timely manner and treat all manuscripts as confidential, for distribution to others for purposes of peer-review only.

Editors should have systems to ensure that peer reviewers’ identities are protected unless they use an open review system that is declared to authors and reviewers.

Journals should have policies and systems in place to ensure that commercial considerations do not affect editorial decisions, and editors should handle submissions for funded issues in the same way as for standard issues, so that articles are accepted entirely on their academic merit and without commercial influence.

Editors should be guided by COPE flowcharts in cases of suspected misconduct (including plagiarism) or disputed authorship.

 Journals should  have a declared mechanism for authors to appeal against editorial decisions.

Editorial Board

Editors should provide new editorial board members with guidelines on everything that is expected of them and should keep existing members updated on new policies and developments.

Conflicts of Interest

Editors should have systems for managing their own conflicts of interest as well as those of their staff, authors, reviewers and editorial board members.

Publication Ethics for Journal Authors

Authors should declare that all work in their submitted piece is original, and cite content from other sources appropriately to avoid plagiarism.

Authors must ensure their contribution does not contain any libellous matter or infringe any copyright or other intellectual property rights or any other rights of any third party.

The listing of authors should accurately reflect who carried out the research and wrote the article, and the order of authorship should be jointly determined by all of the co-authors.

All authors should be aware of the submission of their paper to the journal and agree to the main author signing an IPR form on their behalf.

Authors should ensure that their manuscript as submitted is not under consideration (or accepted for publication) elsewhere. Where sections of the manuscript overlap with published or submitted content, this should be acknowledged and cited.

Authors should obtain permission to reproduce any content from third-party sources (text and images).Unfortunately, the Press is unable to publish third-party content for which permission has not been obtained (excluding content covered by fair dealing).

The source of funding for a research project should be listed on all funded research papers. Other sources of support (including funding for Open Access article processing charges) should also be clearly identified in the manuscript, typically in an acknowledgement.

Authors should declare any potential conflicts of interest relating to a specific article.

Authors should inform the editor or publisher if there is a significant error in their published piece, and work with the editor to publish an erratum, addendum or retraction where necessary.

Publication Ethics for Journal Article Reviewers

Reviewers should  assist in improving the quality of a submitted article by reviewing the manuscript with care, consideration and objectivity, in a timely manner.

Reviewers should  inform the journal editor of any published or submitted content that is similar to the material under review, or any suspected plagiarism.

Reviewers should declare any potential conflicts of interest relating to a specific article or author.

Reviewers should respect the confidentiality of any information or material supplied during the review process.
