Abstract

Abstract. In its usage, social media has been utilized in the election processes of 2014, 2019, and the ongoing 2024 election. One of the challenges faced by Gen Z (first-time voters) due to the use of social media is the fear of missing out  (FoMO). Fear of missing out  (FoMO) plays a role in how Gen Z (first-time voters) make their choices in political participation. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between Social Media and fear of missing out  (FoMO) with the behavior of first-time voters in the 2024 election in Manado City. The method used is a quantitative method. Based on the correlation test, it was found that the calculated r value for social media with first-time voter behavior is 0.200 > r table 0.098, while the correlation test for fear of missing out  (FoMO) with first-time voter behavior is 0.265 > r table 0.098. Additionally, the results of the effective contribution show that the variables of social media and fear of missing out  (FoMO) account for 7.52% of the behavior of first-time voters in the election in Manado City, with the contribution from social media to first-time voter behavior in the election in Manado City being 4.42%, and the variable of fear of missing out  (FoMO) contributing 3.1% to first-time voter behavior in the election in Manado City, while the remaining 92.48% is influenced by other variables that are unknown and not included in this analysis or variables outside this study
