Abstract

The gratitude of parents with children who have special needs, specifically slow learners, reflects a positive attitude toward accepting the destiny of having a child with learning challenges. This gratitude is experienced by both fathers and mothers of slow learner children. This study aims to identify the meaning of gratitude for parents with children who have special needs (slow learners) at SD Islam Terpadu Harapan Ummat Purbalingga. The study employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The results indicate that all six participants exhibit gratitude. This gratitude is supported by 1. Awareness of blessings (Thankfulness): Expressed through optimizing the child's strengths, avoiding comparisons, transforming gratitude into action, and transcendental acceptance, 2. Appreciation of the childs growth process (Appreciation of Life): Evidenced by understanding the learning process, adopting a positive attitude, valuing learning stages, fostering family solidarity, giving rewards, and offering unconditional support, 3. Acts of gratitude (Act of Gratitude): Demonstrated through religious social support modeling, active parental involvement, prioritizing family, positive communication, motivation, and problem-solving, 4. Optimism in facing challenges (Positive Thinking): Illustrated by believing in the best destiny, offering positive affirmations through prayer, commitment to parental roles, and sincere acceptance. All six participants found meaning and gratitude in their journey of supporting children with special needs, particularly slow learners.
