Abstrak

This study aims to examine the role of social support in the quality of life among Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) patients, mediated by medication adherence. Quality of life refers to an individual’s perception of meaning in life, satisfaction, well-being, and happiness. It is considered a broad and complex concept, influenced by various factors such as psychological and physical conditions, independence, and social relationships. Achieving good quality of life is essential to increase remission and extend life expectancy. The participants were 83 SLE patients undergoing treatment at Ulin Regional General Hospital, Banjarmasin. Data were collected using the Medical Outcome Study Social Support Survey, the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF, and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8. Data were analysed using Hayes’ PROCESS macro using a simple mediation model. The results showed that: (1) medication adherence did not mediate the role of social support in the quality of life among SLE patients; (2) social support had a direct role in the quality of life among SLE patients; (3) social support had no role in medication adherence among SLE patients; and (4) medication adherence had no role in the quality of life among SLE patients.
