Abstract

Male adolescents represent one of the groups with the highest traffic accident rates in Indonesia. One of the factors contributing to the high number of cases is risky driving behavior, which is influenced by the psychological conditions of adolescents. During adolescence, impulsivity tends to be high due to the incomplete development of self-control functions. On the other hand, emotion regulation can influence the relationship between impulsivity and risky driving behavior. This study aims to examine the role of emotion regulation as a moderator in the relationship between impulsivity and risky driving behavior among male adolescents in the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek). This quantitative research employed a combination of purposive and snowball sampling, involving 447 male adolescents aged 15–19 years as respondents. Data analysis was conducted using moderation analysis through PROCESS Macro Model 1. The results showed that emotion regulation significantly moderated the relationship between impulsivity and risky driving. This finding indicates that good emotion regulation skills can weaken the relationship between impulsivity and risky driving behavior.
