Coping strategy as an intervening variable: is there an association between emotional maturity and job stress among employees in Surabaya?

Occupational stress refers to deviant behaviors due to anxiety and anxiety about the environment as an awareness or feeling of dysfunction that an individual feels in the face of a unique situation or situation at work. One of the personality factors that cause work stress is the ability to control emotions. Employees who can control their emotions show mature emotions. Emotional maturity is an individual personality that strives to achieve a healthy emotional state because it is a dynamic that can be observed and learned. To prevent work stress for employees, it is necessary to develop problem-solving strategies, or coping strategies, for the problems they experience. A coping strategy is a process by which individuals try to manage the distance that exists between their needs (either arising in the environment or within the individual) and the resources they use to deal with stressful situations. This study aimed to find out whether coping strategies affect the relationship between emotional maturity and job stress. This analysis uses an independent variable, namely emotional maturity. The dependent variable is work stress. The intervention variable is a coping strategy. The sample for this study is 162 employees in Surabaya. Samples were collected using a probability sampling method. Data collection was performed using questionnaires. The results of this study showed that the indirect effect of coping strategies on the relationship between emotional maturity and work stress was significant.
