ANALISIS WACANA KRITIS KETERANGAN PERS MENTERI PERTAHANAN DEMONSTRASI AGUSTUS 2025 DALAM YOUTUBE @SEKRETARIAT PRESIDEN

Abstract

The demonstrations that took place in August 2025 became a public protest after the circulation of a viral video of members of the House of Representatives dancing indoors and DPR allowances that were deemed excessive by the public, thus triggering public anger. The demonstrations that occurred were also inseparable from the government's response and monitoring to determine the extent of the demonstrations carried out by the people, until then the Minister of Defense stepped in to give a press statement in response to the demonstrations carried out by the people. Discourse that is part of a text, whether written or spoken, aimed at the target audience also hidden meanings and messages behind information or texts disseminated to the public. Simply put, what are the intentions and discourses behind the speech delivered by the communicator to the wider public, which can then be analyzed. Symbolic violence that occurs without physical involvement, makes some of them unaware of it. The symbolic violence carried out is of course aimed at maintaining a power exercised by the ruling elite. Through the application of the language style, this indirectly also in its pronunciation can make the communicant or audience feel afraid and threatened without involving physical contact. This study uses a qualitative approach using a descriptive research type. Data were taken from the video in the press statement script of the Minister of Defense and the transcript writer which were then analyzed. This study seeks to determine what discourses are seen in the press statement script of the Minister of Defense on YouTube @Sekretariat Presiden, related to the August 2025 demonstrations which were then analyzed using Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis Method and examined with Pierre Bourdieu's theory of symbolic violence. The results of this study indicate that there are at least three discourses obtained. The first discourse is the Legitimacy of Power in Government. The second discourse is Demonstration = Anarchy. The third discourse is National Solidarity?.
