Abstract

This study presents an Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system designed to measure temperature and power on Current Transformer (CT) connections in electrical distribution substations. The system aims to improve efficiency and safety by enabling real-time monitoring of critical parameters. An MLX90614 sensor measures temperature, while an SCT-013 sensor monitors current and power. Data are processed by an ESP32 microcontroller and transmitted to a cloud platform for continuous observation through a web-based interface. This allows operators to track CT conditions, detect abnormalities, and prevent failures caused by overheating or electrical overloads. Experimental testing shows that the system can measure temperature with an accuracy of ±0.1°C and detect power variations with an error of ±1%. Real-time alerts support timely decision-making and facilitate predictive maintenance. Compared to manual monitoring, this IoT-based approach offers a more efficient, automated, and reliable method for maintaining substation performance. Overall, the system enhances operational reliability by providing early warnings of abnormal conditions and contributes to improved safety and stability in electrical power distribution.
