FRIENDSHIP IN THOMAS TRYON'S LADY
Abstract
Abstrak. Artikel ini mendiskusikan arti persahabatan dalam novel Lady karya Thomas Hardy dengan focus utama adalah persahabatan antara dua tokoh utama dalam novel ini, yaitu antara Woody dan Adelaide Makna persahabatan dalam artikel ini mengacu pada teori persahabatan yang dimunculkan oleh Aristoteles, yakni, persahabatan atas dasar yaitu utilitas, persahabatan kenikmatan, dan persahabatan berbudi luhur. Dari analisa dapat disimpulkan; pertama, tentang diskriminasi ras. Diskriminasi ras sebagai akibat dari prasangka terhadap hitam Amerika menciptakan cinta rahasia dalam kehidupan sehari-hari untuk hidup harmonis dengan masyarakat. Kedua, hubungan antara Adelaide dan Woody mengejawantahkan persahabatan  yang  sejati.
