Abstract

Abstract

Emotional eating is an eating behavior that often occurs as a response to psychological stress. In late adolescence, various academic demands and self-control are thought to play a role in the emergence of this behavior. This study aimed to determine the relationship between self-control and academic stress and emotional eating in late adolescents in Surabaya. This study used a quantitative correlational approach, with 138 late adolescent respondents in Surabaya. The sampling technique used was incidental sampling, with 138 late adolescent participants from various areas in Surabaya. The research instruments consisted of an emotional eating scale, a self-control scale, and an academic stress scale. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression analysis with the help of SPSS. The results of the study showed that there was a significant positive relationship between self-control and academic stress with emotional eating (F = 23.570; p < 0.05). These two variables together contribute 25.9% to the tendency towards emotional eating behavior, while the remainder is influenced by other factors.
